Mobile phones are also known as Handphones or Handsets. They are
nothing but a handheld electronic device that is used for both voice
and data transmission and reception. Mobile phones support many
additional services such as SMS for text messaging, email, packet
switching for access to the Internet, gaming, Bluetooth, camera with
video recorder and MMS for sending and receiving photos and video, MP3
player, and GPS facilities. Mobile phones were introduced in 1908. But
the major development in mobile phones came only in 1960s. Nokia is
currently the world’s largest manufacturer of mobile phones, with a
universal market share of 40 percent in 2008. Other major mobile phone
manufacturers include Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson and LG phones. They all
constitute another 40 percent of total production. Mobile phones
generally obtain power from batteries, which can be recharged from a
USB port, from portable batteries or from mains power. Mobile phones
have media options which are used to set the ringtone. This is the
tone that sounds when there is an incoming call. Also they provide
additional entertainment such as storing and playing MP3 songs and
playing games
